Banyana Banyana Ready To Finish The Job In WAFCON Qualifier Against DR Congo

Banyana Banyana are in the final stages of preparation for their decisive Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifier against the DR Congo.

The South African senior women’s national team is currently in camp in Johannesburg, gearing up for Tuesday’s crucial second-leg clash at Dobsonville Stadium.

The squad’s morale has been boosted by the arrival of their overseas-based stars — Thembi Kgatlana, Hilda Magaia, Sinoxolo Cesane, and Amogelang Motau — who have joined the camp after completing their club duties abroad.

With a valuable away goal already in hand from the first leg in Kinshasa, Banyana are focused on sealing their qualification at home.

Coach Thinasonke Mbuli expressed her satisfaction with how the preparations are shaping up and shared insight into the team’s tactical build-up.

“We are happy now that everyone is in camp. Today is our start-up with everyone in training, and from tomorrow we’ll start focusing on our tactics. The good thing is we have three days to prepare for the match,” said Mbuli.

Now that the full squad has assembled, the technical team will use the remaining sessions to sharpen tactical play and strengthen on-field chemistry between returning internationals and those who featured in the away leg.

Two players, Regina Mogolola and Thato Mofolo, have been placed on standby as the squad finalises its preparations.

Kgatlana Excited to Represent South Africa Again

Among the returning stars, Thembi Kgatlana — one of South Africa’s most celebrated players — expressed her delight at donning the national colours again and her eagerness to help the team secure victory.

“It’s amazing, always an honour to come back and represent the country. I’m in good spirits and I’m healthy,” she said.

With their full-strength squad in camp and spirits high, Banyana Banyana are determined to make their home advantage count and move one step closer to another WAFCON finals appearance.
