Bangladesh National Arrested For Possession Of Stolen Goods Worth R500K

On Friday, 25 October 2024, a significant arrest was made by the Secunda-based Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit.

A 30-year-old Bangladesh national was apprehended for possession of suspected stolen properties, specifically food items and detergent valued at over R500,000. This incident raised pivotal concerns about the trafficking of stolen goods in the region.

Details of the Arrest

According to reports, the Hawks received crucial information about a truck unloading stock at a farm in Leslie. Upon investigating, officers arrived at the scene to find a truck actively offloading boxes and bundles of stock.

They subsequently proceeded to the main building, where a large quantity of additional stock was discovered. In total, two Bangladesh nationals were present at the farm, with one being arrested after an interview.

Response and Implications

The investigative operation not only led to the arrest of the suspect but also the confiscation of various items estimated to exceed R500,000 in value. Additionally, a white Hino truck used for transporting these goods was seized.

The accused appeared before the Leslie Magistrates Court on Monday, 28 October 2024. The acting provincial head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation in Mpumalanga commended the Hawks’ efforts in tackling this serious crime.
