Top Ballistics Expert Chris Mangena Investigates Alleged Assassination Attempt On Brown Mogotsi

Police have enlisted one of South Africa’s leading forensic experts, Colonel Chris Mangena, to examine the alleged shooting involving North West businessman Brown Mogotsi.

Mangena, a respected ballistics specialist who previously analysed evidence in the Senzo Meyiwa murder case, is leading the probe into what authorities suspect may have been an assassination attempt.

The incident reportedly occurred on Monday night in Vosloorus, Gauteng’s East Rand, when Mogotsi claimed he was ambushed by unknown attackers.

His red Chevrolet sedan, which was riddled with bullets during the alleged shooting, is now undergoing thorough ballistic testing at the Vosloorus Police Station.

Forensic Expert Called to Examine Shooting Evidence

Although several bullets struck the car—three of which hit the driver and passenger seats—Mogotsi miraculously escaped without injury. Police are now working to determine the full circumstances of the shooting.

Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe confirmed that Mangena’s team has been tasked with analysing all ballistic evidence before compiling an official report.

“The experts will tell us. That’s why we have roped in Colonel Chris Mangena, who will be able to provide a report as to what may have transpired and what the verdict is on this particular incident,” said Mathe.

Investigation Aims to Uncover Motive Behind Alleged Attack

Authorities have not yet revealed any suspects or potential motives in the case.

The police’s ballistic report, expected once evidence collection is complete, will play a crucial role in determining whether the shooting was indeed an assassination attempt or a different form of attack.
