Bafana Bafana have been placed in Group A and will open the tournament on 11 June 2026 against co-hosts Mexico — a rematch exactly 16 years after their historic 2010 World Cup curtain-raiser in Johannesburg.

While the public lottery begins this week, ticket sales technically started on 10 September, with a staggering 2 million tickets snapped up during the initial phase. Many of those have since surfaced on resale sites at eye-watering prices.

Prices climb sharply closer to the pitch. Prime seats behind the players’ dugout in the stadium’s lowest section are listed at an astonishing R1.3 million each — and only four remain.

FIFA Resale Marketplace Offers Another Chance

There is a glimmer of hope for supporters unwilling to pay secondary market premiums. FIFA’s official resale platform will reopen on 15 December, offering a safer – and potentially more affordable – route for fans.
