Babes Wodumo Faces Jail Time As Assault Case Set For January 2025

Gqom music sensation Babes Wodumo, whose real name is Bongekile Simelane, has found herself in some serious legal hot water. She is set to face trial in January 2025 after being charged with assault against Durban designer Philly Mhlongo, the owner of SK Dee Designs.

This charge arose from a confrontation that took place on February 28, 2024, at Mhlongo’s business.

Borrowed Outfit Turns Sour

The trouble started when Babes’ crew—specifically her dancers, Smiso Zulu and Sanele Smallz—visited SK Dee Designs seeking to borrow clothing. They needed outfits for a performance at the IFP manifesto event in Hammersdale but could not pay the full rental price. After some negotiations, they left behind only R150 instead of the R550 promised for the borrowed items.

Escalation and Assault Claims

After several weeks of attempts to get the clothing back, things escalated dramatically. Philly Mhlongo claims that Babes Wodumo and her crew showed up at his shop intoxicated and aggressive.

According to him, a physical altercation broke out that involved Babes and her bouncer assaulting him and his business partner, Descreet Wear. The incident was captured on security footage, which Philly has cited in his legal action against Babes.
