The organisation said updated flight procedures are now active at most airports across South Africa, including OR Tambo International Airport, to ensure smoother operations during periods of heavy traffic and challenging weather conditions.

This reassurance follows concerns earlier in the year when certain flight procedures at airports in Gqeberha, Polokwane and Mpumalanga were temporarily suspended in October for maintenance, resulting in flight disruptions and questions around the management of the country’s air navigation systems.

ATNS indicated that the revised procedures have strengthened the system’s ability to manage increased aircraft movements during the holiday rush, particularly at high-demand hubs.
