Former Liverpool captain and Rangers coach, Steven Gerrard has been confirmed as the new manager of Aston Villa, SurgeZirc SA reports.
The announcement was made by the club today.
Gerrard succeeds Dean Smith, who was sacked on Sunday following a run of five straight defeats.
To land the new job, Gerrard paid Rangers £2.5m.
As Villa sits only two points outside of the relegation zone, he has his job cut for him.
He will be tasked to propel the club up the division and away from relegation trouble.
Garrard who joined Rangers in the 2018–19 season, signing a four-year deal, went on to lead Rangers through a record-breaking season, claiming back-to-back derby wins over rivals Celtic and topping their Europa League group.
On 7 March 2021, Rangers won the Scottish Premiership title without losing a single league match, achieving their first league title in 10 years and their 55th top-flight title overall.
