Arthur Mafokate Sues Cici Over Defamatory Social Media Posts

Veteran kwaito star Arthur Mafokate (56) has reportedly filed a R1.5 million lawsuit against his ex-girlfriend, singer and actress Busisiwe “Cici” Thwala, in the Johannesburg High Court.
According to court papers, Mafokate claims that social media posts shared by Cici in September last year damaged his reputation, caused emotional distress, and led to lost business opportunities. The posts allegedly accused him of assaulting and “almost murdering” her, and included X-rays linked to her past pelvic surgery.

Mafokate was acquitted of assault charges connected to a 2017 incident — a point his legal team is leaning on heavily.
A Never-Ending Legal Saga That Started in 2017
This lawsuit marks the fourth major legal battle between the former couple, whose conflict dates back to a June 2017 altercation.
At the time:
- Cici alleged Mafokate dragged her with his car
- Mafokate countered, claiming she attacked him
Both parties were acquitted in previous cases, but the public fallout has never really died down.
In this latest matter, Cici’s lawyer has not responded to requests for comment, while Mafokate has declined to speak publicly about the lawsuit. The case remains ongoing in the Johannesburg High Court.

While the case plays out in court, the court of public opinion has already delivered its verdict — and it’s not looking good for Mafokate.
Social media users went IN, linking the lawsuit to past corruption scandals, Lotto drama, and the long-standing trauma Cici has spoken about.
