Serial Car Hijacker Arrested In Emanguzi, KwaZulu-Natal

A 41-year-old Mozambican man, linked to a series of vehicle thefts and hijacking incidents, was arrested in Emanguzi, KwaZulu-Natal.

According to the SAPS statement late Wednesday, the arrest came after a thorough investigation by the Emanguzi Task Team who tracked and apprehended the suspect.

The team also seized a stolen truck and two trailers, believed to be linked to previous hijacking cases.

Truck Hijacking Linked To Recent Case

The suspect was traveling along Thandizwe, R22 Emanguzi, when the task force stopped the vehicle for a routine inspection.

During the search, officers discovered that the truck was displaying false number plates from a neighboring country.

Further investigation confirmed that the truck was connected to a truck hijacking case reported to SAPS Nigel in March 2025.

Cross-Border Crimes Targeted In National Intervention

At the time of his arrest, the suspect was out on bail for two other cases involving similar crimes committed in Alberton and Bedfordview.

These crimes included possession of a presumed stolen vehicle and truck hijacking.

The arrest is part of a larger, national effort to address cross-border crimes along the northern border of KwaZulu-Natal.

The intervention involves SAPS members from various units, including crime intelligence, proactive policing, and detectives, to combat crimes such as vehicle theft, house robberies, business robberies, and violent crimes.
