Apple Reportedly Preparing To Replace Tim Cook As CEO As Early As Next Year

Apple is reportedly moving closer to naming a successor for chief executive Tim Cook, who could step down as early as next year, according to a new report from the Financial Times.

The publication says Apple’s board and senior leadership are accelerating succession planning as Cook considers the timeline for his departure.

Cook, who took over from Steve Jobs more than 14 years ago, has guided Apple to a market valuation surpassing $4 trillion.

Under his leadership, Apple launched major hardware products such as the Apple Watch, AirPods and Vision Pro, as well as expanding its services portfolio with Apple Arcade and Apple TV+.

Sources speaking to the Financial Times suggest that John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of engineering, is the frontrunner to take the top job — though no final decision has been reached.

Ternus joined Apple in 2001 and rose through the ranks of its Product Design and Hardware Engineering divisions, playing a key role in the company’s transition to Apple silicon.

Tim Cook’s Successor Expected to be Named After Earnings Report

According to the report, Apple does not intend to reveal its next CEO before its January earnings announcement.

However, the company is expected to make the news public earlier in the year to ensure a smooth handover ahead of Apple’s annual product events.

In a related leadership move, Apple recently appointed Sabih Khan as its new chief operating officer, replacing Jeff Williams.
