An anti-immigration march in Palm Ridge turned violent after two foreign shop owners were allegedly attacked by a crowd on Thursday.

The incident unfolded at a local spaza shop, where protesters reportedly confronted the two men before they tried to leave the area in their vehicle.

According to authorities, the protesters allegedly threw stones at the vehicle as the two men attempted to flee.

The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle and struck a pedestrian during the incident.

After the vehicle came to a stop, the two men were allegedly assaulted by members of the crowd.

Foreign Shop Owners And Pedestrian Injured

The two foreign shop owners were taken to Phola Park Clinic for medical treatment.

The pedestrian who was hit by the vehicle was transported to Thelle Mogoerane Hospital for further treatment.

Police have confirmed that no arrests have been made and that an investigation into the incident is underway.

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department has condemned the violence that broke out during the march.

Authorities warned that acts of vigilantism and attacks targeting foreign nationals will not be tolerated.
