Anti-Gang Unit’s Successful Operation Captures Murder Suspect In Reddersburg

The Welkom Anti-Gang Unit and team members of the Reddersburg South African Police Service (SAPS) worked together to capture a suspect wanted for murder.

The successful operation demonstrates the value of inter-unit cooperation and the use of informants in quickly tracking down and arresting criminals.

Incident at Thabong

On Friday, February 14, 2025, the Welkom Anti-Gang Unit was conducting crime-fighting patrols in Thabong when they were called to a murder scene in the Katleho Section. According to initial reports, Tshediso Ishmael Mosenohi, 47, was fatally stabbed in the neck after arguing with a known suspect, who then fled the scene.

Information Sharing and Suspect Tracking

As the Anti-Gang Unit’s shift ended on Saturday, February 15, 2025, they passed on crucial information about the suspect to the incoming team. This team immediately activated their informant network, which confirmed that the suspect escaped to Reddersburg, a town near Bloemfontein.

Apprehension in Reddersburg

On Sunday, February 16, 2025, at around 14:00, the Welkom Anti-Gang Unit got specific information about the suspect’s location in Reddersburg. With the proper authorisation, the team travelled to Reddersburg to follow the suspect.

Upon arrival, an off-duty member of the Reddersburg Community Service Centre (CSC) confirmed that the suspect was driving from Matoporong to the Reddersburg Central Business District (CBD).

Working with on-duty Reddersburg CSC members, the team successfully intercepted the car and detained the suspect, a 30-year-old man who was quickly arrested for murder. The suspect is set to appear in Welkom Magistrate’s Court on February 18, 2025.

This effective joint operation shows the SAPS’ commitment to fighting crime and safeguarding community safety via coordinated efforts and intelligence collecting.

The deployment of specialised groups, such as the Anti-Gang Unit, together with the assistance of local police and community informants, is critical in quickly bringing offenders to justice.
