Former Umkhokha: The Curse actress Angel Zuma recently opened up about the mistreatment and threats she allegedly faced after resigning from the show to take up an international role.

The actress, who played Nomkhosi Mthembu, left the popular telenovela after securing a dream role as Rafiki in The Lion King, which required her to relocate to Toronto, Canada.

In a candid video, Angel recounted the hostile treatment she allegedly endured from industry veterans after submitting her resignation letter. “I never thought in my life these people would do such things to me because I said I’m leaving… I had the worst experience leaving. It was horrible.”

She also condemned the industry’s toxic culture, urging for a change in how actors are treated when they choose to move on.

“Can we normalise that when a person resigns, there’s nothing you can do to convince them to stay? Let them go in peace. You don’t need to fight them, pull strings, or stop them from thriving because they will thrive outside.”

MultiChoice Breaks Silence

Following Angel’s revelations, MultiChoice issued a statement acknowledging the concerns surrounding the show’s production.
