Following a probe by the Special Investigating Unit, the tribunal ruled that contracts awarded to Mgudlwa’s company in 2020 were invalid from the start.

The findings pointed to procurement red flags, including alleged failure to follow proper bidding processes in agreements with the Mpumalanga Department of Health.

But Mgudlwa is rejecting that narrative completely.

In his response, he defended the deals, saying they were secured during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic — a time when South Africa urgently needed medical supplies.

He maintains his company stepped in with the necessary logistics to deliver PPE efficiently under a request-for-quotation process.

Even more boldly, he claims the goods met all required standards, were accepted, and used — insisting there’s no proof the State suffered any financial loss.

Now here’s where things get intense… Mgudlwa has made it clear he is not accepting the ruling quietly. While acknowledging the authority of the tribunal, he says he strongly disputes its conclusions.

He has already instructed his legal team to move forward with an appeal and/or review at the High Court — signalling this battle is far from over.

According to him, the entire process was State-led, and he believes key issues — especially the role of the department — have not been fully addressed.

Amid the noise, Mgudlwa also addressed public speculation involving his wife, Anele Mdoda.

He firmly distanced her from the matter, stating she had absolutely no involvement in the contracts under scrutiny.

He emphasised that the deals date back to 2020 — years before their relationship began — and called any attempts to link her to the controversy “reckless” and unfair.
