ANC Committed To Preserving Tripartite Alliance Despite Tensions – Ramaphosa

ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa has made it clear that the party does not want to see the tripartite alliance fall apart.

His comments come as tensions continue between the African National Congress (ANC) and the South African Communist Party (SACP), which recently announced plans to contest future elections independently.

Addressing COSATU’s 8th Central Committee meeting in Benoni, Johannesburg, Ramaphosa said unity within the alliance remains vital.

“The ANC remains committed to the strategic alliance that we have. The ANC remains committed to the objectives of the NDR and in the end, we are irrevocably committed to strengthening the alliance,” he stated.

SACP Pushes for Alliance Reconfiguration

The strained relationship between the ANC and the SACP stems from the Communist Party’s frustration over the ANC’s stance on alliance reconfiguration.

The SACP has argued that the ruling party has resisted calls to reshape the structure of the alliance, prompting its decision to pursue an independent political path.

Despite these disagreements, Ramaphosa stressed that splitting the alliance would not benefit any of the parties involved.

Ramaphosa underlined the importance of addressing internal challenges without weakening the partnership between the ANC, SACP, and COSATU.

“As president of the ANC, I have always been clear that breaking this alliance or weakening this alliance is not in our best interests.

“Breaking this alliance or weakening this alliance is not in the best interest of all of us and we need to deal with all the challenges of reconfiguration, how alliance partners are respected,” he said.
