Amaoti Woman Fights Off Copper Thief And Hands Him Over To Officers

A female homeowner in Amaoti, KwaZulu-Natal, took matters into her own hands after discovering an intruder on her property in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) confirmed that their team was dispatched at around 02:42. On arrival, officers found the suspect restrained, with his hands tied and visible facial injuries.

Amaoti Woman and Neighbours Subdue Suspect

According to the homeowner, she woke up to suspicious noises outside her home. On investigating, she caught a man in the process of stealing copper pipes and fittings.

Armed with a baton, she confronted the suspect and attempted to restrain him. Her calls for assistance quickly drew neighbours, who helped overpower the man until authorities arrived.

During questioning, the suspect confessed to being a heroin addict. He told officers he intended to sell the stolen copper at a scrapyard to fund his drug habit.

The suspect was taken into custody following the intervention.
