Amanda Du Pont Donates R100K To Women For Change Ahead of National GBV Shutdown

Actress Amanda du Pont has made a significant contribution ahead of the Women’s Shutdown scheduled for 21 November, donating R100,000 to the advocacy organisation Women for Change.

National Shutdown Calls for Action Against GBV

Women for Change has urged South Africans — particularly women and girls — to turn their social media profile pictures purple in solidarity with victims of gender-based violence (GBV).

The organisation is also calling for GBV to be declared a national disaster amid the shocking reality that 15 women are murdered every day in South Africa.

The nationwide shutdown will bring women together for a 15-minute standstill at 12pm on Friday, on the eve of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg.

The demonstration aims to honour those who have lost their lives and demand urgent, coordinated intervention.

Amanda, who has previously spoken publicly about surviving violence, said her contribution is meant to uplift all victims — not only women.

“I just want to acknowledge that this happens across all genders and to children as well. There are some incredible men behind the movement, so we are no longer standing alone and we welcome our entire community to stand with us. To whoever has been affected, we stand and fight for you too,” she said.

Women for Change Responds With Emotion

The donation marks the largest financial contribution Women for Change has ever received, according to founder Sabrina Walter.

Overwhelmed with gratitude, she expressed how deeply meaningful the gesture is for the organisation’s work.

“I am crying seeing this. This is the largest donation we have ever received and knowing that it came from such a beautiful, courageous woman makes it even more meaningful. I am so proud of you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart,” Walter said.

The Women’s Shutdown is expected to draw widespread participation as South Africans unite to confront the country’s ongoing GBV crisis.
