Alleged Road Rage Incident In Roodepoort Leaves One Dead And Traffic At A Standstill

An alleged road rage incident that occurred on the corner of Hendrik Potgieter and Handicap Road in Ruimsig, Roodepoort on Friday (March 1) has left one person dead and caused significant traffic disruptions.

The incident, which took place at approximately 14:40, resulted in the closure of Hendrik Potgieter Road between Doreen and Viljoen Road near the Sasol service station.

According to Lionell Gaffney, the operations manager of BCI Security, reports of a shooting circulated on emergency groups, prompting immediate responses from local security companies and ambulance services.

Upon arrival, it was determined that the incident was indeed a road rage altercation, tragically resulting in the death of one individual at the scene.

The alleged perpetrator of the shooting reportedly drove from the scene to the Honeydew Police Station, where he turned himself in.

He was subsequently arrested and appeared in court, only to have his case removed from the court roll and referred back to the police for further investigation. As a result, the suspect has been released pending the outcome of the ongoing police investigation.

The closure of Hendrik Potgieter Road caused significant disruptions to Friday afternoon traffic, inconveniencing many commuters. However, the road was reopened shortly after 17:00, allowing traffic to resume its normal flow.

Despite attempts to obtain further information regarding the incident from the police’s communications officers, Sergeant Kholo and Captain Tsietsi Phora, no updates were received at the time of publishing.
