Alleged Crime Boss KT Molefe And His Hitmen Head To High Court On 35 Charges Including Murder

Alleged crime kingpin Katiso “KT” Molefe is set to stand trial in the High Court after his case — along with several related matters — was officially transferred and centralised on Wednesday.

Molefe and three alleged hitmen now face a combined 35 charges, ranging from murder to conspiracy to commit murder.

Molefe is accused of orchestrating the high-profile killings of popular musician DJ Sumbody, whose real name was Oupa Sefoka, and businessman Hector Buthulezi, known as DJ Vintos.

He is also charged in connection with the 2024 murder of Vereeniging engineer, Armand Swart.

Molefe appeared alongside his co-accused — Tiego Mabusela, Michale Pule Tau and Musa Kekana — all of whom remain in police custody and will be tried jointly with him.

High Court Prepares for Major Murder Trial

Kekana and Mabusela are further entangled in another criminal matter involving alleged underworld operator Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala. The pair are co-accused in Matlala’s case, which is set to begin with his first court appearance on 29 January 2026.

Despite the overlap, both men must still appear with Molefe when the High Court proceedings begin in February.

While the expectation is that the trials will run at the same time, it remains unclear how the court will manage the fact that two of the accused are implicated in both cases.

Concerns Over Overlapping Cases Continue

The concurrent trials raise logistical and procedural questions, especially as both involve serious allegations pointing to organised criminal activity.

The court has yet to outline how it will handle the cross-involvement of Kekana and Mabusela, adding another layer of complexity to an already high-profile legal battle.
