All Five Bodies Recovered After Ekapa Mine Mudslide In Kimberley

All five miners who were trapped underground at Ekapa Mine in Kimberley have now been recovered, following an extensive search and rescue operation.

This latest development comes after two bodies were retrieved on Sunday, as teams worked tirelessly to reach those still missing beneath the surface.

The remains of one miner had already been discovered approximately two weeks ago, shortly after the group became trapped in a mudslide at the mine.

Rescue Teams Complete Recovery Operation At Ekapa Mine

Authorities confirmed that the final phase of the recovery effort concluded in the early hours of Monday morning, marking the end of a difficult and prolonged operation.

Rescue teams navigated hazardous underground conditions to locate and retrieve the remaining miners, bringing the total number of recovered bodies to five.

“We concluded in the early morning. This morning, we took out all the people that was missing during the mudslide that occurred and it was for us to conclude and give closure to the families.

“We appreciate our rescue team members that did this work for us,” said the Mine Rescue Service’s CEO, Mannas Fourie.
