Adv Sello Seeks In Camera Hearing For Witness Testimony In Madlanga Commission Cocaine Theft Probe

The evidence leader of the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, Advocate Mahlape Sello, has applied for a witness to give testimony entirely in camera on Friday.

Sello indicated that the evidence relates to the theft of 541 kilograms of cocaine in Port Shepstone, KwaZulu-Natal.

She argued that allowing the testimony to be heard in public could place ongoing investigations at risk and expose the identities of sources and potential witnesses.

Commission chairperson Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga confirmed that the application will be considered ahead of the witness’s scheduled appearance.

“The application must be served on the media by 2 pm today, 5 May, 2026. The media must respond by 2 pm on 7 May, 2026.

“The final order will be made on 7 May, 2026. If there is no opposition. If there is opposition, a replying affidavit must be filed by 8 pm on 7 May, 2026.”

The commission is set to prioritise matters linked to drug busts across the country during the week’s proceedings.

The first witness scheduled to appear is Major-General Hendrik Flynn from the Hawks.
