Action Society Blasts Sameemah Jacobs For ‘Delay Tactics’ In Baby Kidnapping Case

Civil rights organisation, Action Society, has called out alleged baby snatcher Sameemah Jacobs for what it described as “delay tactics” in her ongoing kidnapping case before the Bellville Magistrates Court.

Jacobs is accused of abducting nine-day-old Imaad Sharmar from his mother, Imaan Sharmar, at Middestad Mall in June this year. She allegedly posed as a volunteer for a non-profit organisation before taking the baby.

The accused appeared briefly in court on Tuesday after asking her lawyer to file a request to amend her bail conditions. However, her Legal Aid attorney told the court they were not yet ready to proceed with the application.

Accused Seeks Changes to Strict Bail Conditions; Action Society Disappointed 

Jacobs is currently out on bail under strict conditions that prevent her from entering Mitchells Plain, where Baby Imaad and his mother live.

Three weeks ago, Jacobs requested changes to those bail conditions, claiming she needed to return to Mitchells Plain to collect her personal belongings from her former residence. Despite the court’s restrictions, the request has been delayed multiple times.

Since making that request, Jacobs has been represented by three different Legal Aid lawyers, and the application has still not been submitted.

Action Society’s spokesperson, Kaylynn Palm, expressed disappointment at the repeated postponements, saying the defence had sufficient time to prepare.

“This is just another delay tactic, which is absolutely ridiculous. The family needs to get some sort of closure regarding this case. So for us, as Action Society, we’re disappointed yet again,” Palm said.

The case was postponed to 6 November to give Jacobs’s legal team additional time to finalise the application.
