73-Year-Old Arrested After Shooting Two Brothers At Business Meeting

A shocking shooting at a Potchefstroom business meeting has left one brother dead and another fighting for his life — and a 73-year-old man under arrest.

Jonathan Fourie, 52, and his brother Deon, 55 — well-known owners of the Chubby Chick brand in Potchefstroom — were meeting with the elderly suspect when gunfire suddenly erupted.
Police spokesperson Colonel Adéle Myburgh said the shooting happened in the mid-morning. Jonathan, who was married and a father to a young son, died at the scene. Deon was rushed to hospital with serious injuries.
The suspect, a 73-year-old man, was reportedly injured when security personnel restrained him during the chaos and is now under police guard in hospital. His condition has been described as stable.

Suspect faces murder charge in Potchefstroom court
Police confirmed that the pensioner will face charges of murder and attempted murder once he is released from hospital.
“The suspect will appear in the Potchefstroom Magistrate’s Court after being discharged,” said Myburgh.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation, but the community has been left reeling after the tragedy struck one of the town’s best-known business families.
