7-Year-Old Boy Escapes Home After Alleged Abuse In Ethekwini, KZN

A seven-year-old boy was discovered wandering the streets of Mhlasini, KwaZulu-Natal, on Sunday afternoon after reportedly fleeing his home to escape repeated physical abuse.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) responded swiftly after receiving a distress call from a concerned resident who spotted the child alone and disoriented. Officers engaged with the boy, who revealed that he had run away to escape frequent beatings from his parents.

Father Admits Child Fled Home Multiple Times

While officers were attending to the child, the boy’s father contacted the RUSA Operations Centre to report him missing. He claimed the child had disappeared while playing in their yard in the northern region of Ethekwini.

The father admitted that his son had fled home at least five times before. When questioned about the alleged assaults, he confessed that his wife had beaten the boy after claiming he had spied on her in their bedroom.

He further suggested the child had “behavioural issues” to justify the disciplinary actions.

Reaction Officers informed the parents that the case would be escalated to the South African Police Service (SAPS) for further investigation. Social workers have since intervened, interviewing the child and relocating him to a secure environment to ensure his safety.
