Seven Dead, Three Injured In Cape Flats Mass Shooting At Philippi’s Marikana Settlement

Seven people were killed in a mass shooting at the Marikana informal settlement in Philippi on the Cape Flats in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Police say preliminary investigations indicate the attack, which took place shortly after midnight, may be linked to extortion-related activity.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) confirmed that the victims include one woman and six men, aged between 30 and 50, while three other people sustained injuries during the incident.

SAPS said the shooting unfolded rapidly, leaving multiple victims dead at the scene and others wounded. Emergency services were called out shortly after the gunfire erupted, but seven people could not be saved.

In a statement, police confirmed that the injured were taken to medical facilities for treatment, while forensic teams processed the scene as part of the investigation.

“The suspects fled the scene, and no arrests have been made,” police said, adding that a manhunt had been launched and investigations were ongoing.
Authorities have urged anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward, as detectives work to determine the full motive behind the deadly attack.
