Seven Arrested After Deadly Philippi East Mass Shooting That Left Seven Men Dead

Seven suspects have been taken into custody in connection with the brutal mass shooting that left seven men dead in Philippi East on the Cape Flats.
The deadly attack took place last Friday at the Better Life informal settlement.

According to Western Cape Police Spokesperson André Traut, the suspects—aged between 16 and 22—were apprehended in the early hours of Thursday morning following a targeted intelligence-driven operation.
Traut confirmed that the suspects face multiple murder charges and are set to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
Westbury Shooting Highlights Urgent Gun Control Concerns
In another incident, Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has condemned a recent Westbury shooting that claimed the lives of two teenagers, stressing the urgent need to address the widespread availability of firearms in communities.
Police have not yet made any arrests in connection with the incident but have confirmed they are aware of the suspects’ identities.
Two teenagers were killed, and five others injured when gunmen opened fire on a group gathered outside a home, once again raising concerns over gun violence in South Africa’s urban areas.
