58-Year-Old Cash-In-Transit Robbery Suspect Arrested After Weeks On The Run

A 58-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with a violent cash-in-transit robbery that occurred on 2 September 2025 along the N8 near Bloemfontein.
According to police, the incident unfolded when a cash delivery van came under attack from armed suspects who fled with an undisclosed amount of money.
Later that same day, suspects believed to be linked to the robbery allegedly opened fire on a marked police vehicle. Fortunately, no officers were injured during the shooting.
Police Trace Suspect to Botshabelo
Following the robbery, a multi-disciplinary team was immediately deployed to track down the suspects. Investigations led officers to a house in Section H, Botshabelo, where two vehicles matching the description of those used in the heist were discovered.

Inside the property, police also recovered rifles, ammunition, and explosives believed to have been used in the cash-in-transit attack. Authorities later confirmed that the arrested suspect was the owner of the house.

The 58-year-old suspect had been evading authorities since the robbery but was eventually located and arrested.
Police have not yet disclosed further details about his capture, but investigations remain ongoing as officers pursue other suspects believed to have been involved in the heist.
