5-Year-Old Girl Electrocuted By Illegal Electrical Connection In Hilltop, KZN

A five-year-old girl is fighting for her life after suffering a severe electric shock outside her home in Hilltop, KwaZulu-Natal, earlier today (Monday).

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) dispatched multiple units urgently after receiving reports of the incident. Responders reached the scene via a nearby gravel road accessible to emergency vehicles.

Eyewitnesses Describe Shocking Moment

According to witnesses, the young girl and her 12-year-old sibling were home alone at the time. While carrying a glass of water, the child reportedly tripped over an illegal electrical connection and fell onto exposed wires.

Neighbours quickly rushed to her aid after finding her unconscious. They immediately contacted the RUSA Operations Centre to request urgent assistance.

Paramedics stabilised the girl at the scene before rushing her to a local hospital for emergency treatment.

RUSA confirmed the child remains in critical condition. “Reaction officers and paramedics responded without delay and ensured she received immediate care before being transported for further medical attention,” a spokesperson said.
