5 Suspects Arrested In Connection With Murder Of JMPD Officer Judith Makwela

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) Tactical Response Unit (TRU), have arrested five (5), suspects in connection with the tragic murder of JMPD officer Judith Makwela.

A statement on Monday issued by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department Communication Unit stated that, the officer was killed at her residence in Riverside, Alexandra, on Friday, March 7, 2025.

Following a tip-off on Saturday, March 15, 2025, the JMPD TRU acted quickly to apprehend those involved in the heinous crime.

Suspects Arrested And Weapons Seized

Acting on reliable information, the tactical unit entered a property in Riverside, Alexandra, where they located a suspect matching the description provided.

During questioning, the suspect revealed critical details that led to the arrest of additional individuals.

In total, five suspects—four males and one female—were taken into custody at the Alexandra Police Station.

Authorities also seized multiple rounds of ammunition, two firearms, pangas, and an air gun during the operation.

Justice For Officer Makwela

Chief Patrick Jaca of the JMPD while disclosing activities of the authorities that led to the arrested said, “The swift and decisive action of our Tactical Response Unit in apprehending these suspects demonstrates our unwavering commitment to ensuring justice for Officer Makwela and her family.”

He noted that, the suspects are facing charges of murder and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

The department emphasized that it would continue to aggressively pursue those responsible for the officer’s death, sending a strong message that attacks on law enforcement officers would not be tolerated.
