Four SAPS Officers Arrested In Mpumalanga Robbery, R950,000 And Cigarettes Seized

Four SAPS officers from Limpopo, along with a 29-year-old civilian, were arrested following a reported house robbery in Mashishing, Lydenburg, Mpumalanga.
The arrests occurred in the early hours of Friday, 10 October 2025, after police swiftly responded to reports of the incident late on Thursday night.

The victims, Ethiopian nationals, were asleep when armed suspects stormed their home, assaulting them and stealing cash and goods.
The suspects reportedly used three vehicles in the operation: a grey Toyota double cab, a private car, and a marked SAPS VW Golf GTI belonging to the Polokwane Flying Squad.
Major Seizure of Cash, Cigarettes, and Ammunition
During the investigation, police recovered boxes of suspected illicit cigarettes valued at approximately R1.5 million and R950,000 in cash. Ammunition was also found, including an undisclosed sum of money hidden in a confiscated bulletproof vest.
One private vehicle managed to escape with several boxes of the suspected illicit cigarettes and a large amount of cash.

However, police successfully seized the marked SAPS vehicle and the Toyota bakkie at the scene. Authorities noted that the suspects had covered number plates with black sellotape in an attempt to conceal their identities.
SAPS Reaffirms Accountability and Public Responsibility
Three male officers, one female officer, and the civilian suspect remain in custody and are set to appear at the Mashishing Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 13 October 2025. Two of the arrested officers still possessed their official firearms, which were immediately confiscated by authorities.
Acting Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General Dr Zeph Mkhwanazi, commended the rapid arrests, stating: “No one is above the law. We will not tolerate any criminality within our ranks.”
