4 Prison Wardens Charged With Murder Of Inmate

Four prison wardens attached to the G4S Mangaung Correctional Centre are expected to appear in court for allegedly killing an inmate, Mpho Mkhumbeni, who died on March 12.

Initially, the murder and death of the inmate was believed to be due to natural causes, but subsequent post-mortem results indicated that Mkhumbeni died due to unnatural causes.

The murder investigation revealed that Mkhumbeni’s death was caused by complications from pepper spray exposure and blunt force trauma.

The wardens allegedly assaulted and tortured Mkhumbeni and his cellmates over a missing R800.

Wardens To Face Court

The four wardens, aged between 34 and 50, have been charged with murder.

The murder suspects are scheduled to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court.

The South African Police Service following the incident have restated it’s commitment to ensuring that justice is served and will thoroughly investigate this case.
