369 Suspects Arrested, 60 Unpolished Diamonds Seized In Nationwide  Operation

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has made significant strides in its efforts to combat illegal mining, with 369 suspects arrested and 60 unpolished diamonds seized during nationwide operations in the past week.

The operations, dubbed “Vala Umgodi,” targeted illegal mining-related offenses and other crimes.

Valuable Seizure, Arrests

The SAPS seized various items, including five unlicensed firearms, 34 rounds of ammunition, and 15 vehicles.

In the Northern Cape, 60 unpolished diamonds were seized, and nine suspects were arrested.

In other provinces, the operations yielded significant results, with arrests made in the Free State, Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and North West.

Police Emphasize Importance Of Public Cooperation

The SAPS emphasized the importance of public cooperation in disrupting illegal mining networks.
