35-Year-Old Taxi Driver Arrested For Reckless Driving And Fraud

A 35-year-old taxi driver has been arrested by the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) on charges of reckless and negligent driving, as well as fraud.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa, spokesperson for the EMPD, the man was driving a Toyota Quantum Ses’fikile minibus taxi when he was apprehended.

The incident occurred when officers from the Tembisa precinct noticed the white minibus taxi driving recklessly and disregarding road traffic signs near the Isangweni taxi rank. A pursuit ensued, and the driver eventually stopped at a traffic light next to the Mpho Bridge in the Mpho section.

Upon approaching the suspect, it was discovered that the driver’s license he presented was fake and did not belong to him. The taxi driver admitted that the license actually belonged to his brother, who resides in Zimbabwe.

The 35-year-old motorist was immediately handcuffed and taken into custody at the Rabasotho Police Station. He is now facing charges under the Immigration Act, as well as charges for reckless and negligent driving. Additionally, the driver will also be charged with fraud.

The Toyota Quantum minibus taxi has been impounded and taken to the Tembisa EMPD precinct for further investigation.
