Three Suspects Identified After Murder Of Explosive Madlanga Commission Witness D

Police have confirmed that three persons of interest have been identified in the murder of Marius Van Der Merwe, a crucial witness who testified before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry under the alias “Witness D”.
Van Der Merwe appeared before the commission last month, where he delivered alarming testimony alleging corruption within the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD).

He claimed he had been asked by suspended EMPD Chief Julius Mkhwanazi to dispose of a body—an allegation that sent shockwaves through the inquiry.
Van Der Merwe was shot dead outside his home last Friday, reportedly in full view of his family.
Police Question One Person of Interest in Ongoing Probe
Speaking at a media briefing on Monday, National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola confirmed that one of the identified individuals had already been brought in for questioning.

“We are confident that soon we will register a breakthrough as police remain on high alert for those behind the killing of Mr Van Der Merwe. Safe to say, investigations are on the right track,” Commissioner Masemola said.
Security Measures Strengthened for Commission Witnesses
Masemola added that authorities had intensified protection strategies for others connected to the inquiry, acknowledging the heightened risk following the high-profile killing.
“The NATJOINTS together with the Madlanga Commission has met and developed a plan to heighten and enhance security around officials and witnesses linked to the commission,” he confirmed.
