3 SASSA Officials Arrested In Johannesburg For Fraudulent Activities

Three South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) officials have been arrested at its Johannesburg Local Office.

The arrests which occurred on Friday, 14 March 2025, were made following suspicions of fraudulent activities.

This is an ongoing efforts to root out corruption within the organization.

Two male officials and one female were apprehended by the South African Police Service (SAPS) just as the office was preparing to begin operations, after receiving a tip-off from a concerned informant.

Collaboration Between SASSA And SAPS Leads To Arrests

The arrests at the Johannesburg office, are part of a broader initiative to tackle corruption and fraudulent activities within SASSA offices across South Africa.

SASSA while working in close collaboration with SAPS, disclosed more arrests are expected as investigations continue.

The arrest is coming after the directives from the Minister of Social Development, Ms. Nokuzola Tolashe, to ensure accountability and integrity in the agency’s operations.

Tolashe said, “we will not rest until all the bad apples in the system are removed.”

SASSA’s Ongoing Commitment To Combat Fraud

The agency  have disclosed that it is  committed to eradicating fraud and corruption within its ranks.

This is in a bid to ensure that it serves its beneficiaries with dignity and integrity.

Minister Tolashe has emphasized that the agency will take swift action against any individuals involved in illegal activities, reinforcing the need for transparency in the management of public resources.

She further noted that, the latest arrests in Johannesburg have shown the urgency with which SASSA is addressing fraudulent behaviour,.

Public Encouraged To Report Fraud And Corruption

SASSA appeals and encourages members of the public to work together with the agency and report grant fraud or corruption to 0800 60 10 11 or the National Anti-Corruption Hotline at 0800 701 701.

The agency further disclosed that, vigilance against fraud continues, to ensure that grants reach the intended beneficiaries without interference or corruption.

Members of the public have expressed satisfaction on the arrest of the official, with some accusing the officials of taking receiving certain amounts of money from illegal foreigners to facilitate IDs.
