Three Detectives To Testify Remotely At Madlanga Inquiry Amid Security Concerns

The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry resumed proceedings on Monday morning at the Brigitte Mabandla Justice College in Pretoria. The latest hearings are being held partially in-camera as part of ongoing efforts to protect sensitive information linked to high-risk investigations.

Over the next two days, three witnesses will testify remotely, with their voices broadcast live but their identities withheld. This follows last week’s testimony by Witness X, who provided classified details about police operations during a closed session.

Three Witnesses Linked to Gauteng Criminal Cartel Investigations will testify at the Madlanga Commission 

According to a statement released on Sunday by commission spokesperson Jeremy Michaels, the three upcoming witnesses—identified only as Witnesses A, B and C—are serving detectives actively involved in operations targeting criminal cartels in Gauteng.

“These individuals are attached to either the Gauteng Counterintelligence operations unit or the Political Killings Task Team,” Michaels confirmed. Their testimonies are expected to shed light on ongoing investigations into organised crime networks in the province.

The commission emphasised that the decision for remote testimony was taken to ensure both the safety of the witnesses and the integrity of sensitive law enforcement activities.

Evidence leaders are set to explain on Monday why sections of the hearings are being conducted behind closed doors. The move follows strict procedural requirements designed to balance transparency with national security considerations.

The commission continues to investigate allegations of corruption and misconduct within state institutions, with the testimonies of these detectives seen as pivotal in uncovering the extent of organised criminal activity in Gauteng.
