3 Arrested In Connection With ‘Wheelie Bin’ Murder

Cape Town police has confirmed arrest of three people in connection with the murder of the Gugulethu woman.

Captain F.C. Van Wyk, a police spokesperson, on Monday, stated that a 57-year-old man, along with two women aged 25 and 26, were taken into custody.

The individuals face charges of murder, though investigations are still ongoing.

“Manenberg Detectives worked tirelessly to solve the murder of the 29-year-old female.

“The arrested suspects will face, charges of murder.

“Investigations are ongoing, and further arrests cannot be ruled out,” Van Wyk confirmed.

A post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.

The police have yet to release additional details about the victim’s identity or the potential motive behind the crime.

This case is eerily similar to another incident that occurred just days earlier.

Cape Town was rocked by two shocking discoveries in early March 2025, as the bodies of two individuals were found inside wheelie bins in separate incidents.

On Thursday, March 6, the body of a 29-year-old woman from Gugulethu was discovered in a wheelie bin in Manenberg.

A commuter walking along Duinefontein Road, near the canal, made the gruesome find when they noticed the woman’s legs protruding from the bin.

The discovery sent shockwaves through the local community, and Manenberg detectives quickly launched an investigation into the crime.

Second Body Found In Wheelie Bin In Steenberg

In a related but separate case, Steenberg police were called to investigate the discovery of a charred body inside a wheelie bin Early March.

A passerby alerted authorities to the incident after stumbling upon the bin along Joe Marks Boulevard near the canal.

When police arrived, they found the body of an unidentified male, badly burned.

Sergeant Wesley Twigg, spokesperson for Steenberg, confirmed the incident.

A passerby discovered the body and alerted the police. The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation, and no arrests have been made yet.”

Nicola Small, chairperson of the Steenberg Community Police Forum, expressed the community’s distress in a statement to the Daily Voice.

Community Reactions Amid Calls for Information

The Police Chairperson, described the discovery of the charred body as deeply disturbing and unsettling for the residents of Steenberg.

She highlighted the swift response from authorities following a report of a fire in the area, but emphasized that the community is still in shock over the crime.

“This tragedy has left our community in shock,” Small said. “SAPS urges anyone with information to come forward, as it is deeply unsettling to think that someone could commit such a horrific act.”

Public Appeals for Information in Ongoing Investigations

As the investigations into both murders continue, the South African Police Service (SAPS) has launched public appeals for information that could assist in solving these tragic cases.
