3 Arrested For Robbing Woman In Verulam CBD

The suspects, who were traveling in a brown Datsun Go, were arrested by police officers from the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) following a tip-off from the victim.

The incident took place after the arrest as the victim was being transported from the RTI offices in Umdloti to Verulam SAPS to file a criminal case when she spotted the suspects in the CBD.

Robbery Details And Victim’s Account

The victim, who had been robbed earlier that day in Durban, identified the three suspects when she saw their vehicle.

According to her account, she had been approached by the driver of the Datsun Go, who offered an E-Hailing service.

She accepted a ride to Matubatuba, but during the journey on the N2 highway, one of the men pulled out a firearm and robbed her of her cellphone, handbag, and important documents, including her identity card and mother’s death certificate.

After being abandoned on the roadside, she sought help from RTI officers.

Suspect Arrest

At around 17:41, RUSA and RTI officers intercepted the vehicle, arrested and detained the three men.

One of the suspects is only 16 years old.

Despite the suspects’ denial of involvement, the victim remained firm in her identification of the men.

After they were arrested, and handed over to the South African Police Service (SAPS) for further investigation.
