27-year-Old Mother Arrested After Two Limpopo Brothers Found Dead In Suspected Poisoning Tragedy

A 27-year-old woman has been arrested in Limpopo after the deaths of her two young sons in a shocking case that police suspect may involve poisoning.

The tragic incidents occurred on Tuesday in Madabani village, which falls under the Tshilwavhusiku policing area. Investigators believe the deaths of the two brothers, aged six and eight, may be connected.

The woman, believed to be the children’s mother, was arrested on Wednesday and is expected to face two counts of murder.

Limpopo Poisoning Case Begins With Six-Year-Old Boy’s Death

The Limpopo poisoning case first came to the attention of authorities when a six-year-old boy was taken to Tshilwavhusiku Health Centre after becoming seriously ill.

According to police, the child had complained of stomach pains, diarrhoea and vomiting earlier that morning. His father, who does not live with him, transported him to the clinic for medical treatment.

Police were alerted at around 11:10 following reports that the boy may have been poisoned. By the time officers arrived at the facility, the child had already died.

“Preliminary report indicated that the victim’s father, who does not reside with him, transported the deceased to the clinic at about 09:20 after he complained of stomach pains, diarrhea and vomiting earlier that morning,” said police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba.

Second Brother Found Dead At Home In Madabani Village

Just over an hour later, police received another report involving the victim’s older brother.

At approximately 12:30, authorities were informed that an eight-year-old boy had been reported missing while attending school. A search operation involving relatives and police was immediately launched.

The search ended in tragedy when the child was found dead inside his home in Madabani village.

Ledwaba said the boy was discovered lying on a bed dressed in a blue tracksuit top and matching trousers.

“He was lying on a bed wearing a blue tracksuit top, and long tracksuit trousers, and members of the Emergency Medical Services declared him dead at the scene.”

Emergency Medical Services personnel confirmed his death at the scene.

Mother Arrested As Limpopo Police Probe Suspected Poisoning

Preliminary findings have linked the two deaths, with investigators suspecting both children may have been poisoned.

“Preliminary investigations revealed the two deceased are siblings from Madabani village, and both are suspected of having been poisoned,” Ledwaba confirmed.

The development led to an intensive investigation that culminated in the arrest of the children’s mother on Wednesday.

Police said a forensic pathology postmortem examination will be carried out to establish the exact cause of death.

“A forensic pathology postmortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death”.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Tshilwavhusiku Magistrate’s Court in the coming days. Authorities have indicated that investigations are continuing and that the motive behind the incident has not yet been determined.
