26-Year-Old Man Arrested After Student Found Dead In Gqeberha Res

A 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of a 24-year-old student following a violent altercation at a student residence in Central, Gqeberha, in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Man Arrested
Police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg said the suspect was arrested on Sunday, a day after the incident.
“Preliminary investigation indicates that at about 04:00, the deceased and the suspect were involved in a fight inside the student accommodation on Strand Street, Central. Other students managed to stop the fight, and the injured student was assisted to his room,” Van Rensburg said.

The student was later found unresponsive in his room. Emergency services were called to the scene but declared him dead upon arrival.
Van Rensburg said the suspect was detained and charged with murder, and that the investigation is ongoing.
“The name of the deceased will be released once the formal identification process is completed. The suspect will appear before the Gqeberha Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 28 October 2025, on a charge of murder,” she said.
Separate Case: Two Women Found Shot Dead in Tshwane
Meanwhile, Gauteng police have launched an investigation after the bodies of two women, aged 21 and 22, were discovered on the side of the road in Mahube Valley, Mamelodi, on Sunday.
According to police, both victims had gunshot wounds to the head, and a case of double murder has been opened.
Authorities have appealed to the public for assistance.
