Residents of Nyandeni municipality in the Eastern Cape have lamented over the poor state of their roads and houses, SurgeZirc reports.

It was gathered that residents made their plight known during a campaign visit by the African National Congress chairperson, Gwede Mantashe, in Mbobeleni village near Libode.

Residents complained that their roads were no longer pliable as they also raised concerns about uncompleted housing projects in the area.

They, however, urged the government to come to their rescue, demanding quick and responsive action for the rehabilitation of roads and completion of housing projects.

“Our problem in this ward is the access roads which are impassable. We do not have houses. A housing project that was brought here is still incomplete. We’ve been complaining for a long time, especially in my village. We have never had houses. But our grievances fall on deaf ears.”

“We don’t have water in our village. They said they will bring water for COVID-19 but we never got it. We are neglected. We also don’t have houses,” some residents say.

Mantashe in response to their plea noted that plans are ongoing to ensure that their needs are met. He however noted that the process requires patience as it does not happen overnight.

“Roads are here. But what we need here is a question of having a yellow fleet to maintain roads, and that is a shortcoming that needs the attention of the whole province. The province must pay attention to that because even beautiful roads here require scraping and rolling. That means there is delivery there, but the project is midway. Delivery doesn’t fall like rain, same time. Houses are built, others have not been built yet. But progress is visible” he added.
