Prioritize People’s Interest, Lekota Tells COPE Mayoral Candidates

Lekota while charging candidates reiterated that they must speak with one voice and agree as one in order to scale through the task ahead.

Leader of the Congress of the People (COPE), Mosiuoa Lekota has urged Mayoral candidates of the party to prioritize the interest of the people and key into the fight against corruption.

Lekota made this call at the party’s virtual conference on Wednesday 22 September 2021.

According to reports, COPE over the week has commenced series of campaigns and manifestos of mayoral candidates ahead of the municipal polls in November.

The party, yesterday took its campaign train to Gauteng announcing Ekurhuleni and Tshwane as candidates in Johannesburg.

SurgeZirc gathered that the mayoral position in Johannesburg will be contested by party councilor Colleen Makubela, Tshwane by Dr. Murunwa Makwarela currently serving in the city and longtime party member Ndzipho Kalipa will run in Ekurhuleni respectively.

Lekota while charging candidates reiterated that they must speak with one voice and agree as one in order to scale through the task ahead.

“You will be given a lot of money, thinking it’s yours. It’s not yours, it’s for the people. Please, put our people first. The people, first!” he added.
