Thembinkosi Lorch of the Orlando Pirates has undergone surgery after a ‘freak accident’ at home, according to the club.
Lorch has been a notable omission from the Pirates squad recently, and following their 1-0 win over Swallows in the original Soweto derby this weekend, co-coach Fadlu Davids revealed he was ruled out for the rest of 2021. “Lorch, we won’t see him for the rest of the year, he’s out with a long-term injury,” Davids said after the win on Saturday.
The Buccaneers have now provided information about the incident, which they described as a “freak accident” that occurred at his home, but they have not provided any further details. The 28-year-old will be out of commission for the next three to four months due to the injury that necessitated surgery.
Zakhele Lepasa, their 24-year-old striker who has been out since December last year, is still recovering from a fracture, while Innocent Maela will be back in training in three months.
Goalkeeper Richard Ofori has also been ruled out of their next game due to an injury sustained while on duty with Ghana during the recent FIFA international break. On Saturday, the Soweto giants will face Gavin Hunt’s Chippa United at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium (15h00).
