Art is imitating real life with Scandal! actor Jerry Mofokeng wa Makhetha. The popular soapie’s viewers were left heartbroken after the actor’s character (Neo Mokgethi) was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer.

And now we also get to find out that the star is also battling with the disease in real life. Mofokeng wa Makhetha stated in October 2019 that he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Sowetan further reported that he wants his character to experience the same thing. Due to his desire to dispel stereotypes regarding the disease, the seasoned actor sought out the Scandal! writers for help.

He also chose this month because it’s Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. Actors, celebrities, and legends are given microphones and made to appear as legends on whatever they’re talking about, according to the actor. “Why then not take that opportunity to actually educate people and take away the myths and fears.”

“When someone is diagnosed with cancer, the first thought is that they’ll die and they won’t be able to perform in the bedroom,” says Mofokeng wa Makhetha. “People think their manhood and dignity is gone.”

He began his treatment after getting diagnosed in 2019. He started with brachytherapy in December 2019, then began started his six-week radiation therapy in February 2020.
