According to Prince Mashile, a political analyst, the ANC would be more divided heading into the local government elections.
He claims that the party’s reputation has been tarnished and that people would be hesitant to vote for them. According to Mashile, following the ANC’s NEC Lekgotla, President Cyril Ramaphosa promised that the governing party would look into expanding and extending the Social Relief of Distress award to help the poor and unemployed cope with the destruction caused by COVID-19.
Mashile says nothing said by Ramaphosa will happen: “Everything that President Cyril Ramaphosa said about the ANC will not happen. He said that the Lekgotla has decided to fight corruption.
“They will attend to it but I know that they will not end corruption. When it comes to local government elections, I know the ANC is going to get a serious wake-up call because the brand of the ANC has been seriously damaged to the extent that I cannot imagine more South Africans to be encouraged to go and vote for the party that is in shambles.”
