Police in the Eastern Cape is investigating a murder after the body of a young girl was discovered near a waterfall in Ngangelizwe, Mthatha, on Wednesday.
Thandiswa Molefe, 16, was found covered in a blanket with burn wounds. She went missing at the end of last month. Priscilla Naidu, a police spokesperson, says the department is looking for the public’s help in apprehending the criminal.
“It is alleged that on 1 September 2021 at about 11:00, children were playing near a waterfall when they noticed the body of a deceased person. They called the elders who reported the matter to the police. The deceased was a young female, 16 years old.
“She was wrapped in a blanket and tied with an electric cable and she had burn marks on the head. It is alleged that the deceased went missing last week Thursday and her grandmother reported to her family. The circumstances surrounding the murder are under investigation,” said Naidu.
