‘Horizon Forbidden West’ PS4 Customers Will Get A Free PS5 Upgrade

After all, Sony will not charge you to upgrade Horizon Forbidden West. According to the company’s Interactive Entertainment chief Jim Ryan, Forbidden West PS4 players will be able to upgrade to the PS5 version for free, as Sony promised back in September.

According to Ryan, the Horizon Forbidden West producers “missed the mark” and will stick to its original pledge.

The change of heart comes after Sony and Guerilla warned customers that they would be restricted to the version of the game they purchased. In other words, if you started with a PS4, you’d have to buy a new copy to take advantage of PS5 features.

If you buy the next God of War for the PS4, you’ll still have to pay for the PS5 release just not nearly as much.

Third-party studios, some of which have offered free PS5 updates, will be unaffected by this pricing (such as for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order). It does, however, set expectations. Sony clearly wants gamers to foot the bill for PS5 updates, and Forbidden West is an exception to that rule.
