“What transpired today is that after going through the docket, the NPA realised that there is no sufficient evidence for us to institute a prosecution. So the docket has been sent back to the police for further investigations. The suspect will be led free,” said a North West NPA spokesperson Henry Mamothane.

Now the heartbroken mother of Khune, Florah Khune, has since spoken to the media on what exactly transpired on the day Mapule died. She said the boy who had been previously arrested had visited the late Mapule and asked her to assist him with his homework.

“He wanted her to help him with his homework. I directed him to where Mapula was. Her cousin came later and helped the boy as Mapula told him she had a vision. She had a vision about ambulances, fire trucks and the police.”

Khune’s sister then went to rest while her cousin continued helping the young boy with homework. Now Mapula’s vision became an unbelievable reality as her mom and dad heard from their neighbours that their house was on fire.

She dismissed the reports as they themselves were in the main building and everything looked fine from that side. She dismissed firefighters, saying they might have their facts wrong. “After sending them away, I found out that the backroom was indeed on fire. My husband and I screamed, hoping our daughter was not inside,” she said.

Unfortunately, it was all too late as the late Mapula was burned beyond recognition.
