The home of Defence and Military Veterans Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula in East London has been burgled.
It is alleged that the house was broken into over the weekend. Departmental spokesperson Siphiwe Dlamini says when the caretaker of the property confronted the suspect, the accused was not able to explain who he was or how he gained access to the house.
Dlamini has further dismissed media reports that Nqakula was in East London at the time. “The Minister of Defence and Military Mapisa-Nqakula is safe in Gauteng at her residence where she has been recuperating over the past 3 weeks.
“The Minister was never and at no point near East London at any given time since she has been on sick leave. As such the statement as it appeared on social media is condemned in the strongest terms. Furthermore, the malicious and insulting comments making rounds on social media about the incident are dismissed with contempt.”
