Police have dispersed a crowd of protesters who gathered near a Brackenfell school. The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is leading another protest outside Brackenfell High School against alleged racism.

A large crowd was bussed in to participate in a protest. Protesters were told to limit the crowd to 100, but large numbers of people arrived to participate in a planned march to deliver a memorandum of demands.

The party has the required permit to stage the demonstration. Police moved in with force, Using rubber bullets, tear gas and water cannon to disperse demonstrators.

The Cape Party was also present in support of pupils, parents and teachers before being asked to leave as their gathering was deemed illegal. A violent confrontation ensued earlier this month when a group of EFF members clashed with parents.

It prompted EFF leader Julius Malema to issue a statement vowing that party members would descend on the school in their numbers.
